Location & Directions
Our apartments, our holiday house on the beach and also our stone house in the village are located in the dreamy fishing village of Zavala, a small place on the south side of the island of Hvar. The village of Zavala is situated on the coast and has a small harbour and offers opportunities for shopping (small supermarket) and eating out. The nearest larger town is Jelsa, which can be reached by car in about 10 minutes.
There are several possibilities to travel to the island of Hvar:
By car to Split and by ferry to the island
- Journey via Split
By car to Split and local ferry to Stari Grad (Split – Stari Grad) - Arrival direction Split, further to Drvenik (Gradac) and with local ferry (35 minutes)
- Arrival by plane
By plane: Split – Trogir (SPU) or island Brac (BWK) - Arrival from Italy
Directly from Pescara or Ancona by ferry to Starigrad

Arrival by car
You have two possibilities to transfer from the mainland to the island of Hvar:
- Local ferry “Split – Stari Grad” (journey time approx. 2 hours)
- Lokalfähre “Drvenik – Sucuraj” (Fahrtzeit ca. 35 Min.)
Plane
Through the international airport in Split, which has been modernized in 2018, there are numerous international flight connections.
Book in your travel agency or e.g. at http://www.croatiaairlines.hr
When you arrive at Split airport (in Trogir) either pick up your rental car at the airport or take a taxi or Uber or the airport bus from Croatia airlines, which will take you directly to the ferry port (“Trajekt”) of Split.
You can get to the island of Hvar either by ferry
- Catamaran to Jelsa(only passengers, reservation required)
- Car ferry to Stari Grad
(No reservation required, tickets must be bought before boarding)
